IMEKO LG : OGSIEC RE-AFFIRMS CONDUCT OF FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTION

Ahead of the forthcoming Chairmanship and Councillorship elections holding in all Local Government areas of Ogun State on Saturday, the Electoral Officer of Imeko Afon LGA,  Mr. Kayode Joshua has declared that the Commission is fully ready to conduct a free, fair and credible election in Imeko Afon Local Government.

Mr Joshua made the bold assertion during the Stakeholders' meeting held on Tuesday with the aspirants

of the two electoral categories at the Conference room of the Local Government secretariat. 

He emphatically stated that the conduct of a credible election does not, however, solely rest the Commission but also  shared by the people.  He said, though the staff of the Commission has been fully trained and other logistics put in place, the need to educate and sensitize voters  and their Party Agents .before the election and their conduct on election day can not be taken with levity.

During his extensive discourse, he educated the Stakeholders' that ,  asides the Voters Card, all other forms of valid ID cards would be accepted for people to be able to exercise their franchise.

In her own professional contribution, the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaja Sekoni, represented by the Council's Director for Community Development, enjoined Stakeholders' to preach the message of peace to the citizenry before, during and after the elections, so as to have a smooth democratic transition and thereafter, make the dividends of democracy felt by all.

While responding, both Chairmanship aspirants, Hon. Theophilus Olorode of APC and his PDP counterpart, Hon. Sanusi, expressed optimism about the electoral process and gave their assurances for a totally peaceful atmosphere during the forthcoming election.

Also suing for peace, His Royal Highness, Oba Benjamin Olanite, Onimeko of Imeko admonished the aspirants and other Stakeholders' to approach the forthcoming election with the spirit of sportsmanship, stressing that Imeko Afon Local Government that has been known for peaceful coexistence, would not be divided because of an election.

The Stakeholders' meeting also had in attendance, the Directors of Information, and Community Development, Mr. Ayoola Obadimu and Alhaja Adedeji respectively, members of various  security outfits, Party Leaders, Union Leaders and other party faithfuls.
