IMEKO AFON LOCAL GOVERNMENT HOLGA READS RIOT ACT TO CONTESTANTS IN FORTHCOMING NULGE ELECTION

The Head of Local Government of Imeko Afon Local Government, Mr. S. A. Adewunmi has read the riot act to all the contestants vying for positions in forthcoming Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees branch election.

Mr. Adewunmi who convened a peace talk today at the Conference Room of the Local Government admonished the two factions recognized to be in the race, to uphold the ethics and the rules and regulations stipulated in the extant laws of the Staff Regulations guiding the Service.

The HOLGA said:"togetherness and unity must be your watchword. You do not have to engage in the forthcoming election as a do or die affair. Whoever emerges in all of the posts to be contested for should see it as God-ordained and whoever does not emerge should garner up strenght to try at another time." 

Further adding, Mr. Adewunmi asserted that, taking a look at all of the contestants, he can see that all of them are married men and women and as such, each one of them should act responsibly and all of thier actions should be geared towards a crisis-free election. He sternly added that, as friendly as he can be, he does not condone any act of staff indiscipline. And he will not want to be put in the position whereby he, as the helmsman in charge of Imeko Afon Local Government Administration, will either discipline any of them or to write a negative report about anyone to the Local Government Service Commission.

"All I want from you, is peace, longsuffering and perseverance. You all should imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in this election. I do not even want to get any report on anyone using vulgar or derogatory languages before, during and after this election," he cautioned.

Speaking earlier in a welcome address, the Director, General Services and Administration, Mr. A. A. Adeniyi said, each one of the contestants should see themselves first, as a staff of Imeko Afon Local Government and that being a NULGE executive is only secondary. He added that both the Progressive faction and the Transformation faction, which are officially recognized to be in the race, should ensure there are no hitches or crisis that can tarnish the image of Imeko Afon Local Government.

In his own addition, the Director of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, San. A. T. Badejoko, sued for peace and orderliness in the electioneering camapign. He enjoined contestants that there should be no record of accident, rancour or violence now, during and after the elections.

While reacting to the HOLGA's request on how prepared the NULGE transition Committee is on the election to be held in about 2 weeks time, Transition Committe Chairman, Comrade Ogunrinola Samuel said, Security Agents are already aware of the election and official letters will be dispatched to them to that effect after the meeting. He also added that other logistics are being taken care of to ensure an hitch-free election on the 24th of this month.

Responding, both aspiring Chairmen, Com Ashimolowo Monsirat Yusuf and Com Oyekan Mojeed of the Transformation and Progressive factions respectively, pledged and assured the Management of a peaceful election and to see each other as one family.

On the permission of the Head of Local Government Administration, the DGSA gave the contestants a go-ahead with canvassing and campaigning for supports and votes from members of staff.

At the peace talk includes: Ag. Head of Information Department, Mr. Ladipo Peculiar,  Admin Officer & Recorder, Mr. Ige G.S. and Mr. Gbadebo Oluwaseyi.
