LGSC IN OGUN STATE BEGINS 2025 LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE WEEK WITH INTER-FAITH PRAYER SESSION

Local Government Service Commission in Ogun State (LGSC) on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, commenced its 2025 Local Government Service Week with a solemn inter-faith prayer session held at the open ground of the Commission’s Secretariat, Abeokuta.

The event, which marked the official flag-off of the weeklong celebration, drew a large turnout of staff and dignitaries from across the state’s twenty Local Government Areas, including Commissioners, Directors, Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs), and departmental heads, among others.

In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, emphasized the significance of beginning the Service Week with prayers. She noted that the session was an expression of gratitude to God for His faithfulness since the last celebration and a way to seek divine guidance for the success of the week’s activities.

" Starting this important week with prayers is our way of acknowledging God's hand in sustaining our workforce and preserving peace in our Local Government System," Onabanjo said, stressing that gratitude and supplication remain central to the Commission's values.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Otunba Koye Martins Ijaduoye, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation to the Commission’s leadership for the opportunity to organize this year’s celebration. He described the Service Week as a morale-boosting platform designed to reaffirm the dedication of local government staff to effective grassroots service delivery.

Special prayers were offered for the continued strength and wisdom of the Commission’s Chairman and Management by Alhaji Nureni Odunbaku and Venerable (Dr.) Dele Alonge. Taking his text from Psalm 103:1–3, Ven. Alonge highlighted the importance of gratitude and encouraged attendees to continually give thanks to God for His unfailing faithfulness.

In her vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, FNSE, appreciated the Chairman, Management, HOLGAs, and staff for their active participation in the opening event. She commended the Planning Committee for its commitment to excellence in organizing a memorable celebration.

The inter-faith prayer session, which culminated in a special thanksgiving, set a positive tone for the week’s lineup of activities.

Other events scheduled for the 2025 Service Week include a Cultural Evening, Public Lecture, and a grand Gala/Award Night, where outstanding staff and stakeholders will be honoured for their contributions to grassroots governance and service delivery.
