Ogun NAWOJ Celebrates International Women's Day, Decorates Aare Iyalode of Egbaland As Matron

 ... Demands recognition of women heroes 

In commemoration of the 2024 International Women's Day, the Nigeria Association Of Women Journalists NAWOJ Ogun State Chapter has lauded the federal government for its efforts in emancipating women's and girls' rights in society, demanding recognition of women heroes. 

NAWOJ made the commendations during the 2024 celebration of International Women's Day, held at the Cultural Center, Abeokuta, the state capital, on Friday. 

Speaking at the event,  the keynote speaker Ms Sola Arobieke who is also the SA Governor Abiodun on Investment, said it is pertinent to give recognition to all women who died heroic so that many generations be inspired through them. 

She also maintained that the only way to inspire inclusion in the next generation is to inspire them through mentoring, empowerment, and support noting that all women have the responsibility to plant a virtuous tree for the next generation so they can have protection. 

Arobieke also noted that inspiring inclusion is by making women have confidence in themselves, and decide which is for women and which is not for women. 

She posited that women are now changing the narrative, and giving them deserving recognition will inspire them to do more. 

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of Ogun NAWOJ Comrade Sekinat Salam-Opebiyi pointed out that investing in women's education, and health and empowering them would not only uplift individuals but also build a better future for generations to come. 

She called on fellow women journalists to continue to play a vital role in advancing gender equality and amplifying the voice of women whose stories are often unheard. 

She said" Women play a pivotal role in the development of societies, yet they often face barriers and inequalities that impede their full potential. By investing in women, we are not only empowering them but also contributing to society as a whole."

"As journalists, we have a crucial role to play in advancing gender equality and amplifying the voices of women whose stories are often unheard or marginalized".  

"Through our pens, cameras, and digital platforms, we have the power to shape narratives, challenge stereotypes, and drive positive change in society."

The event also decorated the Aare Iyalode of Egbaland, Alhaja Sikirat Ejide Adeyanju as NAWOJ Matron.
