LG SERVICE WEEK : ONABANJO LADIES CLINCH MAIDEN LG SERVICE WEEK TROPHY, WALLOP MALE COUNTERPART BY 4-0

 ... Abeokuta Metropolis stands still as LG Workers storm major streets in Abeokuta in an eventful road show 

It was an entertainment galore at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta as Onabanjo ladies, comprising of both female career and political functionaries defeated their male counterpart ( Onabanjo boys), equally made up of male career and political functionaries by four goals to nothing.
The novelty match which was part of the activities lined up to mark the maiden edition of the Local Government Service Week was played on Wednesday 15th November, 2023.

The kick off ceremony was performed by the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, flanked by the other dignitaries at exactly 4:15pm.
The thrilling novelty match , saw Onabanjo ladies dictating the pace in the early part of the game, with the ladies adopting "RUGBY STYLE " of play to the amusement of the spectators.

However, what could have been the first goal of the match was wasted when Onabanjo ladies failed to convert a penalty kick in the 5th minute of the encounter.

The Onabanjo boys were stunned in the 13th minute when the ladies drew the first blood with a "hand of God goal." 

At the resumption of the second half, the Onabanjo boys woke up from their slumber, took possession of the game, with good interchange of passes, leaving the ladies to chase shadow.
However, the introduction of Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo who was the cynosure of all eyes at the tail end of the novelty match paid off for the ladies as Ms Onabanjo was a thorn in the flesh of the boys, she was mesmerizing and capped her superb performance with three goals in quick successions to seal victory for the ladies.

Olopade Sakiru who covered the novelty match, reported that all the four goals recorded by the Onabanjo ladies were through hands to the amusement of the spectators, mostly local government staffs who stormed the venue of the match to cheer both teams.

The high point of the event was the presentation of the trophy to the victorious Onabanjo ladies.

Speaking to journalists, shortly after the novelty match, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) cum National Treasurer, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Akeem Olatunji Ambali, described the novelty match as very entertaining, amusing and as one that promotes love, peace and harmony among the local government staffers.

In attendance at the event are: Full-time Commissioners, Local Government Service Commission, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Adeolu Oluwaseun Olufowobi, directors, Local Government Service Commission, the President,  Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Ogun State, Comrade Adebayo Adefesobi, Heads of Local Government Administration, directors and head of departments across the twenty local government areas in Ogun State.

Earlier in the day, there was a road show led by the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo within the major streets of the Ogun State capital.

Speaking at the Government House, Oke Mosan where the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, spoke with the road show convoy commended the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo for efforts in ensuring that the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission become the pacesetter in the country.

Mr. Talabi described Ms Onabanjo as a goal getter who never rest on her oars, saying, she always deploy means of getting the nod of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, in ensuring that the Local Government Service Commission gets fair share and adequate support from the state government.

He therefore, on behalf of the state government, promised to continue to identify with the Local Government Service Commission course, adding, that supports will be rendered by the state government to sustain the momentum of the Local Government Service Week.

Others who spoke during the road show applauded the chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo and her team for a job well done, saying, the achievements of the present Commission are unprecedented.

The important personalities that participated in the road show include: the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. ( Dr.) Oluwasesan Fagbayi as well as the Executive Chairmen of Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Governments, Full-time Commissioners, LGSC, the Permanent Secretary, LGSC, his counterpart from the Bureau of local government pension, directors, LGSC, Heads of Local Government Administration ( Holgas).

Others are directors/head of departments as well as staffers of the twenty local governments in the state.
