In commemoration of the National Youth Day, the Gateway Progressive Youths has commented the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his youth empowerment initiatives which have benefitted thousands of young people in the state.
This was made known by the Director of Publicity, Olamide David, during the Ogun State youth symposium hosted by the state government to commemorate the National Youth Day in Abeokuta.
He said, "The well-thought-out youth development programmes that we are witnessing in Ogun is a clear departure from what we used to have in the past when youth events were one-off and their impact on attendees was likely to wear off quickly.
David noted that every youth empowerment program in the state is designed to inculcate in the youth the virtues of hardwork, dedication, and leadership for the development of their personality, communities, Ogun state and the nation by extension.
Appreciating the Governor further, the Deputy Coordinator of the group, Olusola Adisa described Governor Abiodun as a youth living governor, adding that the state has witnessed various youth development programs in skill acquisition, agriculture, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Sports, Education and others.
According to him, "Governor Abiodun has exhibited a great level of commitment to youth capacity building, entrepreneurship, empowerment and sustainable youth development to reduce unemployment in the state. Through his visionary and high performing leadership, Governor Abiodun has managed to keep alive hopes for a better future for youths who have lost faith in the electoral process to take actionable steps in building our future together through productive eager in developmental activities.
"If the youth development initiatives we see in Ogun State are applied across the federation, then a fresh generation of more skillful and productive youths will be raised around the nation. There is no better time to empower youths than now. In fact, now is the time to prepare the youth to meet future challenges and help them to unleash their potential
“Young people are the resources that must be groomed and harnessed for the overall development of the state and Nigeria, at large. This government has made investments in the youth development initiatives, especially in leadership development.
"In Nigeria, Ogun State remains a veritable breeding ground for budding sporting talents. Most of the celebrated Nigerian sportsmen began their sporting tutelage in Ogun state. The current World, Commonwealth and African champion in the 100m hurdles, Toby Amusan, amongst others.
“Let me state clearly that youth empowerment through agriculture has been seen to be a part of this administration’s policies aimed at engaging youths in productive venture,” he said
