Itori Mogan village extension residents cry out over demolition by Ogun Government

Landlords and residents of Itori Mogan village extension in the neighborhood of Golf Resort in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, raised alarm over an alleged demolition exercise carried out by officials of Ogun State government.

According to Baale of the community, Olawale Oladipupo, the lingering crisis dates back to the administration of former governor Ibikunle Amosun who allegedly revoked the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) earlier granted the owners of the communities numbering about 13 to 14 by his predecessor, former governor Gbenga Daniel. The Baale alongside other affected residents made spirited efforts to upturn the decision of the erstwhile administration of Ibikunle Amosun but to no avail.

Enter the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun who inherited the unresolved crisis and according to sources made promises never to demolish or continue with the revocation order of the Amosun government during his electioneering campaign to the communities. To the utter shock of the residents of the village extension, trouble reared its ugly head recently when the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun reneged on his promises and approved the demolition exercise in the communities.

The visibly troubled Baale of the community, Olawale Oladipupo in company of the indigenous owners of the lander which include Kolawole Abiodun, Abraham Odewole, Oludare Akanni and Bolaji Osinowo accused the government of Dapo Abiodun of illegal demolition an exercise allegedly aimed at re-allocating the land to his friends and cronies in government. They further alleged that the government demolished properties worth over 200 million belonging to their sons and daughters who returned home to develop the community in the aftermath of the demolition of their properties elsewhere by the previous administration of governor Ibikunle Amosun.

The landlords and residents of the affected communities appeal to the government to immediately halt the demolition exercise and stop further violation of the rights and inheritance of the helpless community dwellers.

According to knowledgeable sources, the demolition exercise without any prior notice to residents was carried out boastfully bh TPL Odunlami who was alleged to have boasted about his demolition track record in Lagos. Sources further alleged that the hurriedly carried out demolition exercise received the blessings of Ogun's commisioner for Housing, Hon. Omoniyi, a member of Abeokuta Golf Club who is alleged to have a personal interest in the matter.
