Abbas Lauds Gov. Sanwo-Olu for Recognising Police Officer Assaulted by Civilian, Charges other Officers on Professionalism.

...Says Such Decision Will Serve As an encouragement to other officers

Ahmed Dada Abbas, a human rights activist, has hailed the Governor of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for recognising ASP Sunday Erhabor, a Police officer attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the State Command, who was assaulted by one Victor Ebhomenyen at Four Point by Sheraton Hotel, Oniru last weekend.

Abbas described the decision of Sanwo-Olu as laudable, saying that such decision will serve as an encouragement to many other officers to employ the tactic of calmness and professionalism when engaging with civilians.

It will be recalled that a video had gone viral on social media last Saturday, where, Erhabor while trying to arrest Ebhomenyen for driving against the traffic was violently assaulted and inflicted with severe bodily injuries. But the Police officer, who was armed with his official AK 47 rifle, displayed a high level of professionalism despite the fierce provocations.

Abbas said that the high level of professionalism and calmness displayed by ASP Erhabor who restrained himself from taking laws into his hands, despite being assaulted while trying to arrest Ebhomenyen for driving against the traffic is commendable, adding that the decision to recognise him by the Lagos state governor is an encouragement for other officers to show that they can be civil in the face of provocation or assault from suspected criminals.

He added, "I find the decision of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu commendable by recognising ASP Sunday Erhabor, who displayed high quality of restraint in the face of provocation and assault on his person displayed high level of diligent and civil oriented professionalism expected in modern policing"

"It became necessary for the government to bring ASP Sunday Erhabor out to use him as a testimonial and encouragement for other Police officers in showing that indeed they can be civil in thier engagement with civilians and that Police are meant to protect the citizens".
