ASLG FLAGS OFF SPW

The Chairman, Transition Committee, Abeokuta South Local Government Ake, Hon. Ayodeji Michael Shomide, has formally flagged -off the Federal Government Special Public Works program, for 1000 unemployed Youths in the area, ASLG.

Shomide stated that the program is the iniative of the Federal Government targeted to employ One Thousand (1,000) unemployed youths each in the 774 Local  Government in Nigeria, that the 1st batch of the 321 Participants have been shortlisted to start work immediately for Three Month and their duties are actually centered to engage the unemployed youths in the important Sectors of the economy, where their impacts would be felt by the larger society, as well as to protect them against hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and joblessness.

"It is no gainsaying that Government at all levels are desirous of delivering on their avowed promises of bringing succor to the doorstep of her populace, hence, participants are advised to be good ambassadors of Local Government and discharge their duties diligently", Shomide stated.

The Council Boss, Shomide charged the participants, made them to understand that they are to engaged in specific Community/environment public work activities ranging from  drainage clearing and maintenance, vegetation control, feeders roads maintenance, irrigation, great green wall and orchard maintenance amongst others, that opportunities are abound for those that are diligent, hardworking and creative during the execution of the program.

Earlier, the Director General National Directorate of the Employment (NDE), ably represented by Mr. Bakre Tajudeen explained more on the bases of the program, affirmed that, the exercise is a very significant step; quest to win war against mass unemployment as well as to ameliorate the effect of COVID-19 pandemic that, the core mandate of the NDE is exploration and promotion job creation potential available within the Sectors.

Pressed further that, during the activities of Extended Public Work beneficiaries (EPW), the communities we begin to receive facelifts through the work of the participants.

Be that as it may, Mr. Bakre enjoined the participants to be punctual at their various duties posts and ensure the program is transparent and fair service delivery with the responsibility to justify their pay.

In addition, Hon. Shomide thanked the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR for being highly inclined to youths' development and however urged the beneficiaries to be committed, efficient and dutiful throughout the period of the exercise.
